the first step is to admit you're powerless over shoes. then, drop the support group and get your fix at il primo passo for shoe addicts.

owner beth whiffen has cobbled together an array of hard to find labels. valentina carrano, gwendolyn carrie, and tania spinelli for starters. remember your mom's ferragamos that you stole when you were jonesing? salvatore's granddaughter, vivia ferragamo, enables a new generation. find jimmy choo and chanel habit-forming? the same italian factory that makes shoes for those labels works twice as hard producing another line called, what else: twice. the kicker? lower prices. and leave it to CSI:miami's emily procter to sequester pucci's $495 electric blue stiletto sandals and laurence dacade's $695 wine-colored lizard peep-toe pumps at the opening last week.

this comfy sanctuary, designed by dianne kraus and banning rowles, has an environmental soul. heels clack on sustainable maple floors, and formaldehyde-free wood shelves display the wares. complimentary organic espresso kicks off the morning. the afternoon? wine lowers your inhibitions, making you even more susceptible to the monkey on your back. you might want to go in the morning.
