spice market

question: what do you get when you combine two of your favorite restaurateurs together in the meatpacking district? the answer: ninth avenue's newest addition to gourmet cuisine - spice market.

yes, both jean-georges and gray kunz have been plotting away at their own restaurant adventures (owner jean-georges with his awaited steakhouse at the time warner building, and consulting chef kunz in the midst of cafe gray in the same locale). but both have kept spice market's details hush-hush from almost every new york foodie until now.

well the cat's out of the bag. the menu: southeast asian street food with dishes like a shrimp tod mon pla (shrimp cakes with a cucumber peanut relish) or steamed muscles with lemongrass, thai basil, dried chili and coconut juice. the m.o? communal family style with a bar lounge for apres-din din offering late-night cocktails thru 4am.

the feat? getting a reservation. the restaurant will be offering limited seating for a while until its normal hours resume.
