seat couture.

a type V personality: this person suffers from OVD (obsessive vintage disorder). often characterized by the desire to make the old new again. can be found scouring flea markets and restoring 1950's gucci purses. might consider chair couture furniture to be genius.

founder margaret elman's your typical OVD. she spent former lives in advertising and as a playwright, but she couldn't shake the itch to make old things new. so she scratched it, and chair couture was born. she now re-dresses classic euro antiques (bergére, fauteuil, boudoirs, and the like) with totally mod finishes: striped fabrics, painted legs, fluffy seat cushions. but there is no frou here. these are one-of-a-kind pieces fit for contemporary living. and each comes with their own plucky name: little uma, chip, bubbles and robin (pictured left). and if your OVD runs deep, as in a great fear of seeing anyone with something remotely close to what you have, she does custom work.

old habits die hard. but fortunately look good.
