punk
is back. but you can't get by on skinny jeans and a denim vest
alone. what you really need is to surround yourself with reminders
of mohawks, cellophaned hair, and tonight's performance of the voluptuous
horror of karen black.
duck into deitch projects' wooster street location for part show
(karen black is a band), part limited edition album release (the
sound of magic), and part fine art installation (as in nudity
and mile-high wigs). founder kembra pfahler calls thier new sound "precognitive
folklore," but your guess is as good as ours. what we can say though
is that it's about time punk came back. (dr. scholl's, big hair,
and members only jackets weren't nearly as fun.)
and to top off this two-day horror engagement (tonight and tomorrow
are your only chances), they'll be selling one-of-a-kind paraphernalia
that could serve as perfect inspiration for this season's wardrobe.
sans the wigs and nudity.
