don't let the name fool you. the just-opened mini palais, in the newly redone grand palais, is already buzzed about enough to be the next big thing.
chef gilles chokroun partnered with mini-cooper to create a dramatic new resto in the 8th arrondissement. go up the grand (what else?) staircase, and into the reception area, where a whooping 60 clocks (which look like they came off a mini dash) give the time from bombay to budapest. the ginormous 4,000 square-foot-dining room, in grays and taupes infused with splashes of tomato red and fuchsia chairs is anything but tiny. then there are the black lacquered chaises on the terrace that you can lounge in whilst nibbling on your mini-plat of salt encrusted tuna cubes in orange. in fact, chef chokroun mixes most of his ultra-modern menu up with crazy, inventive dishes like foie gras crème brulee with caramelized peanuts, and a fun upside down lemon tart alongside classics like st. marcellin cheese with grilled toasts.
what's in a name anyway?
