interested in flipping through a century's worth of vogue's best fashion images? (nevermind, we know.) which is why we're letting you know that, vogue
en beaute is now on exhibit at the bibliothèque françois-mitterand.
running along the hallways of the modern, spacious mitterand library, the oversized
and sumptuous prints on display cover 1910 to 2007. the whole history of beauty
over those years is contained in the images. from deco to hollywood glam to seventies'
sleaze, it's all there. seeing sophia loren, gina lollobrigida, and marilyn monroe
all shot so magnificently and side by side is worth the price of admission
(okay, it's free, but you get the point). the grand tour also gives you the chance
to see sometimes-overlooked masters of more recent times like chris von wangenheim
and hans feurer. their color saturated hard-edged work still looks fresh and
modern. crazy sculptured hair, of the sort you'd only see the pages of a magazine,
amusingly shot by david sims bring us up to the present.
of course we'd be remiss to leave out genius photogs david bailey, mario testino,
bert stern, and steichen, who are all on display. and that's who we all imagine
is shooting us when we pout in the mirror.
