and you thought nothing worth going to opened in the summer. ce n'est pas vrai. les cocottes de christian constant (named for a type of casserole dish) is creating a stir in the 7th arrondissement on the same block as constant's le vilon d'ingres.
the long, high counter and comfy surroundings are just right for the food (also comfy). dishes (even desserts) are served in cast-iron or glass casserole dishes - les cocottes. an old concept, but something new for a gourmet resto. coming from a michelin-star guy, this place is also reasonably priced, and perfect for a bite. sip a summer creamed peas with chorizo soup, or nosh traditional roasted pigeon, crusted cod with potato ragout, or peppered shrimp con legumes à la grecque. for dessert, a refreshing red fruit salad with chantilly and peppermint.
no reservations are accepted. it kind of goes with the whole quaint, eat-out-of-a-casserole idea.
