sure you follow all the new restaurant openings. but hidden, existing gems are worth a notice too.
so, maybe it helps that il gattopardo is situated just across the street from a catrillion dollar, newly designed museum (ahem, moma - no dummies here). and maybe it helps to have killer maltagliati with a three meat ragu and porcini mushrooms, or a lasagna di carnevale with meatballs, ricotta and smoked mozzarella on the menu. but throw you over the edge is that chef vitto gnazzo used to own a country inn in salerno, and named his spot after the leopard - a 1963 film starring burt lancaster and claudia cardinale.
you can drool. but you'd be better off getting dressed in the spirit of next-to-manolo-blahnik-and-acquavit, saving your appetite, and visiting the only 72-seat townhouse restaurant yourself.
