a new private club in new york? it's true.

beginning may 7, new yorkers can get ready for the soho house - a chic 45,000 square foot members-only international club in the meatpacking district. the club is owned by a group of british investors including 39 year-old nick jones - creator of the original soho house in london.

the soho house is complete with a full-service spa, rooftop pool, screening room with leather club chairs, restaurant and three floors of bedrooms. over 600 founding members have already been invited (including the hollywood jet-set, fashion and beauty editors and well-known literary personalities), but the committee is now taking applications for general members.

so how does one become a general member? according to tim geary, a founding member and head of (non)pr, you need to complete an application, be proposed by two existing members and pay a membership fee of $950. geary explains the club's goal is to protect its environment, keep a certain demographic and prevent it from becoming overcrowded. "in an ideal day, members can come for a steam or sauna, see a film, and have dinner."

it's a first for new york, but let's see if it can carry on.
