all dressed up and hungry enough to lick your plate clean? welcome to the best of both worlds at the recently opened scarpetta.

you know the chef for his time at l'impero and alto. and you know the space because you used to dance on the tabletops of what was once the village idiot. then gin lane. scott conant's goal with the new ital resto was to create a sexy, yet comfy space where you could feel relaxed enough to sop up the remnants of your saucy dinner with a hunk of bread. scarpetta might translate to "little shoe" in italian, but refers to that hunk of bread. the 20-seat outdoor patio will be packed when lunch starts in a few weeks. if you get shut out, move inside to the café area anchored by a long mahogany bar. or settle into the sizeable dining room set under a retractable roof designed by S. russell groves (who designed the giorgio armani boutique, among many others). start with an offering of focaccia and stromboli and move on to super creamy polenta with truffled mushrooms or duck and foie gras ravioli. save room for boneless osso buco with saffron parmigiano orzo.

one, two, buckle your shoe. then unbuckle your belt.
