new york | entwine yourself.
contributed by fabiana santana
sometimes you can't help getting mixed up in something new. experience it for yourself at the recently opened entwine.
friends valeri kvaratskhelia and mali simsek set out to create a place that incorporates art and music, food and drink. entwine's antique eclectic vibe lends to the cozy setting perfect for lounging. sprawl out on red velvet couches and indulge on the mezze-heavy menu of mixed olive tapenade, flatbreads topped with roasted peppers, and pan-cooked stuffed mussels with onions and pine nuts. something sweet? share some apple confit in mint liquor with cinnamon and ice cream. the sub-level tasting room may have the same wood paneling found in the dining area, but here, it's all about the sips. using a new napa technology that allows for individual pours, the glass list at entwine rivals the bottle list at most restos in town. and if the sun is calling your name, head to the lush garden and enjoy drinks like the monkey's glands (that includes gin and absinthe) or handpicked tea from simsek's fam garden in ankara. the goal here is to roll out a new tasting menu every week complete with cocktails, food, design and artwork, so even regulars can be kept on their toes.
think of it as dinner, with a twist. entwine. 765 washington street. between bethune and west 12th. 212.727.8765. www.entwinenyc.com
