you hate to admit it, but there's only so many variations on the california roll. at sugarcane raw bar and grill, opening thursday, expand your palate on far east cuisine.
sushi, while delicious, can't always hold a candle to heartier, cooked fare. and at sugarcane you're provided proof of this in many ways (as in three kitchens). you read that right: three. the sushi samba offshoot will boast one hot kitchen, a raw bar and fireside robata grill. and for something like that, it's a good thing they've secured a 4,200-square-foot space complete with terrace, indoor and outdoor bars. exec chef timon balloo (domo japones) is behind the tri-style menu, while concept developer shimon bokovza concentrates his efforts on aesthetics. look for reclaimed woods, along with vintage and found objects, graffiti and more to make up the mod furnishings. similar to the NYC and vegas sugarcane lounge, this is sure to be the ultimate spot to veg out and get your meat on.
forget idle chatter. stop by and get the real dish. sugarcane raw bar and grill. 3250 northeast first avenue. between 32nd and 34th. 786.369.0353. now open. www.sugarcanerawbargrill.com
