remember "take
your daughter to work day?" yeah, well, the mastermind behind that, nell
merlino, has now launched count
me in for women's economic independence. sure it's
a less snappy name, but no less important. the group is a non-profit
that helps women with start-up businesses.
savvy female entrepreneurs who once went to work with their parents can thank
merlino again - her new movement, make
mine a million, is helping one million women reach $1 million
in revenue by 2010. and here's the fact of the day: one in 11 women start their
own businesses. buh-bye corporate jobs. stay-at- home mom? so last century. merlino's
program is allowing women to begin a gig of their own, whatever it may be. business
education and micro-loans (anywhere from 500 to 10,000 buckaroos) help self-starting
ladies get their feet of the ground. through the use of coaching, marketing,
and communications tools, women learn the ins and outs of their corner of the
business world.
events take place all year, so hop on the bandwagon (your bank account will appreciate
it, too).
