the weather outside is frightful. inside, we're filling our stomachs with clotted cream tarts, smoked eel and chilli quail. and this month's restaurant openings are:
do cause.
he needs no intro. the 12-michelin starred alain ducasse is opening a resto this month at the dorchester. tipped to become one of london's most exciting (and expensive) eating spots, the top table will be surrounded by a curtain of fibre optic lights. pretty people will pay £1350 for a special dinner menu of alain's mod french cuisine. it's going to be electric. opens mid-november. 53 park lane. near deanery, W1A. 02.76.29.88.66. www.alainducasse-dorchester.com
how zen.
grabbing a bite in chinatown is about as calming as getting a massage in piccadilly square. until haozhan. this new asian resto has been widely hailed as the best new thing to hit chinatown since, well, ever. and it's all thanks to chef chee loong chong who used to tie his apron on at hakkasan. munch on things like chilli quail and prawns stir fried with marmite. now open. 3 gerrard street. near newport, W1D. 02.74.34.38.38. www.haozhan.co.uk
franco fill.
the man behind the jewel of W12, the bush bar and grill, is opening le café anglais. it's being billed as proudly british yet unashamedly francophile. high above the rooftops of west london, expect views across hyde park. mod brit bites will be served with a colossal rotisserie forming the centrepiece of the open kitchen. c'est le café. opens 5 november. 151 queensway, W2. 02.89.47.44.74. www.lecafeanglais.co.uk
here and there.
the former head chef at st. john bread & wine has just transformed an old butchers shop in notting hill into hereford road. named after the street it sits on, expect brit delights like smoked eel with beetroot and horseradish, and braised rabbit shoulder with turnip. menu changes daily. now open. 3 hereford road. at leinster, W2. 02.77.27.11.44
bankable.
if it's a good cornish dinner you're after, with some of the best river views in the capital, try northbank. set on the thames opposite the tate modern, its beguiling interior is surpassed only by the west country food. falmouth crab and clotted cream tart and steamed musssels with cider and bacon are menu standouts. it's jolly good. now open. 1
paul's walk. at millennium bridge, EC4V. 02.73.29.92.99.
