london gets back to its roots this month. find the resto on top, be costa brava and opt for a west coast detox with our list of february eats.

establish this.
michelin-starred chef karl macewan has been lured away from the famous glasshouse to the establishment (pictured). this retro style joint serves up a truly english menu. think braised meats, mash and good ol' fashioned puddings. the 70s live on here with brown and cream wallpaper, foscarini glass chandeliers and bits of mod art. 45 - 47 parsons green lane, SW6 4HH. parsons green tube. 087.1960.9911.

resto on top.
covent garden doesn't just have a new museum, it's got a new place to brunch. head to the new upper deck café at the london transport museum for cakes, muffins and hot drinks galore. all with a view of the piazza and the museum's world city gallery. the cute interior takes its inspiration from patterns and designs used in the northern line stations in the 1930s. watch out for the bar to open for evening drinks soon. london transport museum. covent garden piazza, WC2E 7BB. covent garden tube. 020.7598.1355. www.ltmuseum.co.uk

dukes of hazzard.
it's hard to get more british than bond, james bond. head to the hotel that inspired those famous shaken martini's for an intimate meal at the relaunched dining room at duke's. the entire venue has been renovated for the new year: antique touches are stirred up by contemporary artwork. the crowds may come for the potent iconic cocktails, but they stay for the simple brit-based menu and classic dessert offerings. st. james's place, SW1A 1NY. green park tube. 020.7491.4840. www.dukeshotel.com

costa brava.
spanish resto costa dorada has a new manager and a chic new look. the tiles are out and the whole place has the look of a charming cocktail bar. the flamenco shows are still on, but the menu has been refreshed and expanded. à la carte paellas join funky tapas plates and all the mixed drinks imaginable. 47-55 hanway street, W1T 1UX. hoxton tube. 020.7631.5117. www.costadoradarestaurant.co.uk

west coast detox.
west end party animals and health gurus are heading straight for the new soho-based branch of pure california. their made-to-order smoothies, blended juices and wraps are a hit for brekkie, lunch and tea-time. the berry and banana-based 'hangover-over' smoothie is the perfect morning after pick-me-up. 102 wardour street, WF1 0TW. oxford circus tube. 020.7287.4008. www.wardourstreet.purecalifornia.co.uk

feelin' french.
grosvenor house's multi-million pound makeover is well and underway. but before the whole new look is unveiled in early 2009, give the place a little taste test with ollie couillaud's new french brasserie, bord'eaux. inspiration comes from the south of france, so expect healthy gallic-med dishes drizzled in olive oil and provence-style herbs when it opens in early february. grosvenor house. park lane, W1K 7TN. marble arch tube. 020.7499.6363. www.grosvenor-house.co.uk
