london | a royal kett.

contributed by simon lazarus

a london stalwart, kettners has recently launched an exclusive private members-only club upstairs.

originally opened by napoleon III's personal chef, auguste kettner, the apartment on romilly street has been beautifully designed taking inspiration from the sultry interiors of a typical french film director's den. think sexy casting-type sofas, striking grand pianos and a jaw dropping drinks display in this multi-level spot. even more glam is the "private secret door" entrance accessible via greek street, where the likes of edward VII and oscar wilde used to enter. and if you're hungry? head chef rufus wickham has developed a traditional club menu at kettners. tasty treats include a mouthwatering selection of gourmet open-face sandwiches, a homemade kettners hamburger and even an extensive pudding bar. drinks don't disappoint either with a well constructed list featuring a range of classic and champagne cocktails that's sure to make your night sparkle. and if you're entertaining some serious A-listers? book one of the private rooms with names like cabinets particuliers, the studio and tête a tête.

this place is certainly on the up. kettners. 29 romilly street, W1D5HP. 020.7734.6112. now open. www.kettners.com
