whoever
said three's a crowd didn't have a clue. nor did they know that
good things come every three years. case in point: the tate
triennial.
third time's a charm (ok we'll stop), since it's the third triennial
to come way since the tate started the exhibit in 2000 to showcase
the best and brightest contemporary artists. this time 'round, get
a taste of some very dodgy 70s porn courtesy of cosey fanni tutti,
who made her work in the sex industry into modern art. if that doesn't
wet your whistle, there's always muzi quawson's photos - melancholic
stills of disenchanted, hippy, modern american youth culture.
and before you leave take note of the neon words lighting up the
courtyard: “in girum imus nocte et consumimur igni.” that's
latin for "we go round and round in the night and are consumed by
fire."
it's a palindrome. geddit?
no one said (postmodern) culture would be easy.
