house in a box.

shoe box. (check). hat box. (check). chocolate box. (check.) house box? (yes, check.) these days, and courtesy of marmol radziner prefab, you can get your home sent to you in, well, a very large box.

this L.A. based design firm launched its very own prefab factory in vernon, california, and could soon make house hunting a wee bit easier. in fact, their system puts you completely in charge of all details, right down to size and layout. here's how it works: pick the model (five different options are available so far), and colors, and even customize appliances. bonus: your new crib will even be made from recycled steel, and many features are environmentally friendly. our favorite: the solar energy system. $295,000 for a 1320 square foot house, with two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a 270 square foot deck.

et voila, it's ready at the speed of light. five months later and a new house is delivered to your doorstep.

no, actually the door step comes with.
