what with the beach, new shops, new clubs, new restos, summer in the hamptons can be soooo stressful. okay, maybe stressful is the wrong word. but, here's what to expect when you're expecting... to summer on the east end this season.

prime time.
you haven't been at his flagship lately, and ed "jean luc" kleefeld has noticed. he's turned his signature jl east into prime 103, a steakhouse, sushi bar and wine lounge, in an effort to bring the crowds back. executive chef brian chewing (previously of james on main and george martin) has created a menu for a diverse crowd, full of hearty grub for the cigar-chomping hedge funder who will try to pick you up, and light plates for the dancing queens who show up late (open until 4 a.m., weekends). 103 montauk hwy. east hampton. 631.324.1100.

sushi scene.
in the spot formerly occupied by magnolia, jeff reznik and tora matsuoka have created a list-only addition to sen that already has a few locals peeved. but feel free to work it at the swank new sen lounge saki bar. we miss gay-karaoke thursdays already. 29 main street. sag harbor. 631.725.1774. www.seninthehamptons.com

on the line.
if you're looking for a little down-home BBQ this summer, townline BBQ, from the folks who run nick & toni's, has us ready to show up wearing bibs. this is where everyone will stop on the way home from sag main beach all summer. 3593 townline road. sagaponack. 631.537.BBQ1. (not hooked up yet, but put it in your palm for later.)

sand storm.
there may as well be a zoning law saying that noah tepperberg and jason strauss must consult on all new nightclub openings. they've teamed up with matt shendell to open dune. interior designer steve lewis (marquee, butter) created a space that is said to evoke a "classic hamptons feel." and we had expected sci-fi and and a sting cameo.1181 north sea road. southampton. 631.283.0808. www.dunesouthampton.com

a-musing.
at muse, chef-owner matthew guiffrida (formerly of the patio in westhampton) comes east of the canal with a beachy new haunt and a menu ranging from burgers to seafood. one of the focal points of the space is a 250-gallon fish tank that doubles as a bar top. citarella center. watermill. 631.726.2606.

buon giorno.
in the old location of the anna's by the bay is tutto il giorno, a rustic italian kitchen serving up breakfast (on weekends), lunch and dinner. part-owner, condé nastie steve florio is sure to pack in media types, and a great view of boats bobbing in the harbor won't hurt. 5 bay street. sag harbor. 631.725.7009.

nice pants.
brooks brothers country club collection, BB's akwardly named new line of casual stores, comes to southampton with an inventory that looks something like it came from old new yorker cartoons. opens july 2. 48-50 main street (formerly the saks men's store). southampton. 800.274.1815. www.brooksbrothers.com

days planner.

may 24-26.
the hamptons are all about the gift bag. if you take the jitney out memorial day weekend (and really, who wants to drive through that traffic?), you'll find a summer tote filled with serious swag on your seat courtesy of www.julib.com. talk about getting off on the right foot.

june 29.
even if you don't attend the posh southampton fresh air home's american picnic fourth of july weekend, make sure to look up over lake agawam for the grucci fireworks display. 1030 meadow lane. southampton. 631.283.5847.

july 21 (preview).
the hampton designer showhouse almost sounds redundant, but the event gets more popular every year. july 22-september 3. location to be announced. 631.537.9688. www.hamptondesignershowhouse.com

july 26-29.
when an international jet-set of art dealers and artists crash into the hamptons for SCOPEhampton expect more of the same weird and intriguing installations they've brought for the past two years. (remember the giant plastic bubble in the bay?) www.scope-art.com

july 21-september 1.
see you at the open bar and runway shows at bridgehampton polo club's mercedes benz polo challengeand hampton cup every saturday at 4 p.m. there is also something that goes on with horses there. which would explain all the hot argentinians wearing polo pads. two trees farm. 849 hayground road. water mill. www.sportpolo.com

august 26-september 2.
the hampton classic is one of the best reasons to wear a big, fancy hat we know of (also a pair of designer shades). horses and riders compete for some of the largest purses (money, not handbags) on the equestrian circuit. you just want to stay out of the sun. horse show grounds. snake hollow road. bridgehampton.
