everybody else has a power list? why not us? ours is a little different though. here are the players who really have the power this fourth of july, not the brokers and billionaires.
 the pipsqueak.
this squeaky little bird (we're sure you've seen them whiz by you on the beach) brings east hampton town to its knees nearly every july fourth. this year's fireworks were postponed (again) until labor day, when the plover will be done nesting. can't it nest west of the canal? fourth of july fireworks on main beach. east hampton. now, on labor day.
 the restaurateur.
locked in mortal combat with the plover, jerry della femina has fought to preserve our inalienable right to watch things go boom more than once. plovers be damned, uncle jerry promised to bankroll his own fireworks display and pay the $10,000 fine for disturbing the plovers. the least you can do is eat at his restaurant. della femina. 99 north main street. east hampton. 631.329.6666.

 the red menace.
the main lobster has been grabbing the spotlight of late, with lobster salad topping out at $100 a pound at loaves & fishes in sagaponack. maybe he's exacting revenge for all that hammering and cracking. 50 sagg main street. sagaponack. 631.537.0555. www.landfcookshop.com
 the pick-up artist.
if you need to fix a flat … hairstyle, that is, or are just looking for an incredible cut, idian at the valery joseph b'hampton outpost is the man to see. he turns lackluster locks into runway goddess tresses. now that's power. (VJ stylists even make house calls). 2545 main street. bridgehampton. 631.537.8967.

 the invisible man.
generating power without wasting electricity, the eco-showhouse project greenhouse launched in east hampton last weekend. its sole resident will blog daily about life in the sustainable, eco-conscious house designed by architect edvin karl stromsten. he'll spend all july being completely carbon-neutral (no negative impact). we still still think it sounds kind of like that pauly shore movie bio-dome. at the end of the month the 1,500-square-foot, three-bedroom home will go up for sale for $1.39 million. alright, so he doesn't quite speak for the trees, but you have to start somewhere. blog goes live next week.

 the player.
as a honcho at new line cinema, micheal lynn wields a lot of power in tinseltown. his vineyard, corey creek, weighs in on our weekend list with its packed picnic coolers - just right for bringing along to watch the fireworks (on labor day, if you haven't noticed). each retro cooler includes a bottle of main road red and a bottle of main road white, along with izze sodas and local north fork treats. $150. main road. southhold. 631.765.4168.
