best of summer.

end-of-summer blues getting you down? here's what you need to know to make the most of your final weeks at the beach:

hair do.
hair don't: spend hours blowing, ironing, and forcing hair into submission, only to return to former frizzy state once outside. hair do: call the east end and summer-only salon, valery joseph. this summer they've up and opened a spot on three mile harbor road. (screech.) yes, the actual salon is in the springs. but there's an alternative to trekking: house calls. cut. blowdry. mani. pedi. yadayada. you name it. now you can sit poolside while having your hair colored. looking pretty, of course. valery joseph 514 three mile harbor road. 631.329.6533. www.valeryjoseph.com

get staffed.

need a helping hand (or ten) to help you kick off your final summer soirée? at your service staff agency offers everything from captains to coat checks, and is available 24-hours. want to sample the goods before buying? check them out at the hampton classic or bridgehampton polo this season. 275 west main street. sayville. 631.589.4174.

wild one.

finding a good new restaurant in the hampsteins isn't always a walk on the beach. but now noyac road can certainly add the new wildthyme spot to its list. yes, yes. this place was once called Q thai. but new chef sean olnowich offers a mediterranean menu with a hint of asian influence, including offerings like sake-marinated alaskan halibut or sushi napoleon. as for the interior? it's the traditional east end white-tablecloth-and-wood combo, but boasts an extended outdoor patio area that seats about 20. wildthyme. 129 noyac road. southampton. 631.204.0007.

pop to it.
snap and crackle never had it so good. especially now that the latest pop-up designer to hit the beach is alvin valley. may we suggest a pair of signature slacks or a ruffle blouse before it's too late (two weeks after labor day). 81 jobs lane. southampton. 631.283. 9383.
