the demolition man.
evan dlum must have just gotten plain old sick of seeing the same old boring reproductions of catalog furniture somewhere back in the 90's. take a trip up to 125th street and see for yourself. his four-floor warehouse - demolition depot - is chock full of (about 8,000) vintage pieces you might never find anywhere else - literally.

a giant copper reposé of russia's catherine the great (formerly used as a building ornament)? yes. not that it could be a centerpiece for your new york living room. but other items, i.e. vintage estate doors, a steel ticket booth from the 1939 world fair, and old original plumbing fixtures from the plaza hotel could be more up your alley. (not to mention a plethora of smaller knick-knacks you could carry home.)

yes, evan is also responsible for bits and pieces of the west village staple, pastis. and yes, his collection is open to the public - sans the pier one wicker of course.
