hit the roof.
contributed by rebecca taras
after being cooped up for what seemed like an endless winter, you're ready to hit the roof for balmy nights and cool cocktails. the new 7,000-square-foot playground recently opened atop the 27th floor of the wit hotel.
chef todd stein is serving up a menu of small plates that pair perfectly with the handcrafted gourmet cocktail list. indoors, the vaulted ceiling spires to a 27-foot peak at one corner, and there's a seven-foot glass fireplace (shown, thanks to photog wayne cable of selfmadephoto), through which the surrounding skyline can be seen. (keep that on your radar for next winter). plush seating and partitions turn the lofty space into small, cozy gathering spots for your crew. and outdoors, a number of fire pits are surrounded by communal tables that seat up to eighteen. don't miss the giant "green" wall made of flora and fauna, and one of the best tables in chicago: a glass-enclosed extension suspended 27 floors above the city with a table for eight.
that's right, the roof is on fire. roof. at the wit hotel. 201 north state street. at madison. 312.239.9501. now open. www.therestaurantsatthewit.com/
