after years of water cooler chatter, it's finally happening. apple opens its newest (and largest) US flagship store thursday.

think of it as the big apple in the back bay. like all of its enormous computer warehouses, this one is located smack dab in the middle in the city's hottest shopping district. this mac mecca is a technophile's dream: three floors (and 20,000 square feet) of gadgets, including 64 iPod options, 104 sleek computers and 100 one-on-one customer training stations at the genius bar. and even if you don't know an iPhone from a shuffle (seriously, what century are you in?), you can't help but appreciate all the high-tech goodies. the glass façade of the building offers a striking juxtaposition between boylston street's tradish architecture and the company's ultra-mod look. and turns out this apple is green, with an eco-friendly, vegetation-covered roof.

some advice? take a bite of this apple before it gets too ripe.
