been holding your breath since you heard about the anticipated opening of scampo? it's been delayed for months, but you're ready to carbo load and you can bet it was worth the wait.
the lydia shire-helmed spot is now (finally) open and serving up rustic, contemporary fare. but you'll need to get in line to taste shire's magic (her locke-ober wasn't named one of the country's best for nothing). scampo (meaning escape) is the latest addition to the holding cell-turned-hot spot liberty hotel, joining resto clink and club alibi (sense the theme?) this first-floor eatery promises to be the most sophisticated, with a spacious open kitchen, house-made mozzarella bar and an outdoor patio for warm-weather dining. the menu includes classic italian items (read: carbs glorious carbs) and plenty of seafood. vibrant colors and copper accents will warm the exposed brick space, including the 38-seat, private dining room.
don't think of it as the slammer. a trip to scampo is more like a sweet escape.
