put an early spring in your step by tasting boston's best, playing by the numbers and getting your veggies with this list of march eats:

a good year.
boston restaurant week, the semi-annual excuse to take a leisurely lunch, is around the corner. the 100+ participating restos (including newcomers cafeteria and oceanaire) offer fixed lunch menus for just $20.08 (get it?) and dinner for a steal at $33.08. reserve your spot now or eat your heart out. march 9 to 14 and 16 to 21. www.bostonusa.com/restaurantweek

congressional address.
housed in the renaissance boston waterfront hotel, newcomer 606 congress (pictured) will boast seafood, natch. but also watch for twists on classic american fare from the inventive mind of consulting chef michael schlow. he's sure to draw on his experience as owner of italian spots alta strada, radius and via matta to bring a refreshing dining option to southie. opens march 3. 606 congress street. at D. 617.338.4111. www.marriott.com

vee is for veggies.
it's not easy eating green in the city, but 20-seat jamaica plain addition vee vee is helping the effort. the contemporary american menu includes veggie options such as a roasted beet and fennel salad alongside regional seafood dishes for $20 or less. a small price to pay for chef team dan and kristen valachovic's (both of zon acclaim) talents. now open. 763 centre street. between eliot and thomas. 617.522.0145. www.veeveejp.com

central 37.
the financial district is rife with cash but doesn't get much credit for its must-try restos. enter former saint chef rene michelena and central 37. it's a four-floor eatery decked in natural wood and a fine-dining feel, sans pretense, in the former home of the black rhino. the menu has a pan-asian influence and includes spiced-up sea bass and salmon. now open. 21 broad street. at central. 617.263.0037.

taste test.
you've totally procrastinated on that "hit the south end dining scene" assignment. get a crash course when 40 restos join forces at taste of the south end. try bite-size versions of dishes from beehive, stix and just-opened chocolee chocolates. earn extra credit since you're also fundraising for the AIDS action committee by purchasing tix ($95 to $250). march 11. boston center for the arts. 539 tremont street. at hanson. www.aac.org

scamper on.
after months and months of delays, is scampo finally ready to open at the liberty hotel? you hope so. the lydia shire-headed resto has been the hottest news 'round beantown, and you just can't wait for her rustic italian fare that you enjoyed at biba and locke-ober for years. opens march. 215 charles street. near fruit. 617.224.4000. www.libertyhotel.com
