a new dress and a new painting? that's the
road being taken these days by several couture designers who are displaying
their favorite artists and even holding private exhibits to view their work.
months ago it was madison avenue's "where fashion meets art." today,
tribeca issey miyake is
exhibiting the work of contemporary artist sebastian
blanck - an up-and-coming
artist whose work may just be a collector's item
one day soon.
his sultry paintings, created in soft and subltle nude tones, give you the
sense that you are peeking through the shower door. the artist, an east village
resident
(and rhode island school of design graduate), was discovered by art curator and
collector amanda richman - and she quickly put him to the test. she presented
his work to tribeca issey miyake -
a store designed by architect frank geahry and now exhibiting the works of various
artists. one month later - blanck's work
was hanging on the walls among the miyake dresses
and gowns and was being sold
for thousands.
these days even the newest of art collectors are snatching up blanck's paintings
. not only do they look chic on your living room wall but an investment in art
may just prove a little more profitable than those failing stocks.
kudos to issey miyake.
whose sense of style transcends both fashion and design.
