los angeles | april eats.

can't find the secret tavern? seek all the comfort food you can stand, or call in the reserves with this list of eats:

comfort food.

park your pony at the new westside tavern, where a statement wall boasts reclaimed cedar cordwood from the san diego fires, and the menu is all cali comfort. warren schwartz (whist, patina, saddle peak lodge) uses fresh seasonal ingreds to dish up baked artichoke and fontina dip, burrata mozzarella BLT, hand-cut handkerchief pasta with fennel sausage, and king crab and avocado salad. now open. 10850 west pico boulevard. at westwood. 310.470.1539. www.westsidetavernla.com

how bazaar.

funky lamps, mismatched chairs, thrift store finds and an antique piano make boho feel like les puces in paris. chef andre guerrero's menu is equally eclectic with complicated pizzas (pulled pork, bianca verde), roasted marrow bones, and coconut rice pudding. "big ass plates" (really a category on the menu) means starving artists can share. but with items all under $20, you'll want to get your own. now open. 6372 west sunset boulevard. between ivar and morningside. hollywood. 323.465.8500.

the secret tavern.

suzanne goin of lucques (and recent james beard nominee) and partner caroline styne (A.O.C), branch out with the highly anticipated tavern in brentwood this month. expect a twist on balthazar with an in-house bakery and gourmet goods for sale. with no website, phone number or menu set up yet, it's shrouded in mystery. opens april. 11648 san vicente boulevard. at darlington. brentwood. no phone yet.

white out.

restos open and close in a flash, and just like that lisa vanderpump todd and ken todd (SUR, jewel in london) are reportedly replacing trilussa with villa blanca in weeks. expect a sexy, white space with fab flowers. and the menu? exec chef francis dimitrius (of koi) draws on his mediterranean background for moroccan spiced braised chicken with couscous, and shrimp and chorizo potato pizza. pass the pinot grig. opens mid-april. 9601 brighton way. at camden. beverly hills. no phone yet. www.villablancarestaurant.com

the reserves.

with talk of water rationing, you've found your own reservoir (the resto, that is). this 40-seat venue features a copper bar and a ceiling crafted from refurbished redwood reminiscent of a cabin. chef gloria felix (lucques, ciudad, A.O.C., grace) did time as hell's kitchen's sous chef, so there's a devil of a seasonal rustic menu. spicy mussels with grilled ciabatta, warm wild organic mushroom salad, haricots vert and shaved pecorino, sound healthy, while a grilled 14 oz. cowboy ribeye with herbed compound butter is sinfully good. now open. 1700 silver lake boulevard. at effie. silver lake. 323.662.8655. www.silverlakereservoir.com
