april eats.
contributed by jo aspin

eat me. or at least that's what some new plates are calling out this month. and the winners are:

oh so english.
summer's set to be simply spiffing when the albion opens this month. shaun clarkson (who else?) has re-worked the georgian pub's interiors and head chef richard turner (marco pierre white protégé) will offer simple british fare. drink pimms outdoors in the attached country garden. yes, fruit trees and wisteria. opening 2nd april. 10 thornhill road, barnsbury. N1 1HW. 020.7607.7450. www.the-albion.co.uk

keeping it local.
there's more seasonal eating to be had at notting hill's cresent house. food on the brit-inspired menu includes ingredients sourced as locally as possible. choose from fine dining upstairs or brasserie grazing on the ground floor. note: anyone caught talking imports will be barred. opening 16th april. crescent house. 41 tavistock crescent. W11 1AD.

a la mode.
simple, modern, locally sourced. the magnolia interiors were inspired by legendary fashion photog, guy bourdin. think floral wallpapered pillars and flock red chandeliers. okay, so the food's still locally found. but we're far more interested in the large accompanying cocktail bar. opening week of 16th april. magnolia. 21 worple road. SW19 4BG.

pre-theatre preview.
robert seigler's single-handedly overseeing covent G's restaurant scene. le cafe du jardin, le deuxieme, and now the forge. head chef andy barber (the whistler room at tate britain) is cooking up a mod european menu. basically, anything goes: colchester oysters, snails with red wine jus, lambs kidneys on toasted sourdough, and veal with quails egg. opened 26th march. 14 garrick street. WC2. covent garden. 020.7379.1432. www.theforgerestaurant.co.uk
