Even in the midst of summer, you like to keep your fabrics decadent. So, lounge in a spot where lush backdrops mix with seasonal fare. Hear that? The Velvet Room is calling.
Sure, the great outdoors are fab, but this is San Fran after all and the fog likes to hang in the supposedly sunny months, too. Duck inside the Clift Hotel for a high-drama kind of scene. Lush velvet curtains meet leather banquettes and hand-blown Murano glass lamps, while food's presented on the cross-shaped, illuminated communal table (crafted from hand-etched Venetian mirror, natch). Let's just say the space is big enough for the whole fam, including your godfather. And the fare is as dynamic as the setting. Chef Ewart Wardhaugh is the distinguished gourmand heading up the internal affairs. Be it a Santa Barbara rock shrimp with truffle butter and grilled flatbread or a line-caught halibut with warm sunchoke salad, his grub is sure to please. His approach? Seasonal, ingreds-driven and sustainable. In other words, don't be surprised if you find a raw honey comb hailing from the Bay-area flora on your plate. And for entertainment, the Velvet Room (cousin to the Redwood Room) is rolling out a serious summer music series thanks to the city's golden group, Vintage 415, which means live tunes every first Thursday. But you can grab a Campari soda over breakfast, lunch, or dinner any day of the week.
