The French have this elusive formula for being effortlessly hip, and nowhere is it more apparent (off the catwalk, anyway) than on H Street, at Le Grenier. Meaning "the attic" en français, the shabby chic decor at the two-level resto from the people behind Le Chat Noir in Tenleytown will make you feel like you're squirrled away in a Parisian garret (minus the cobwebs and dust). Take in the distressed wallpaper, old suitcases, antique instruments, hanging birdcages, and more from your spot on the banquette or at the 13-seat, marble-topped bar. The menu, under the direction of chef Thierry Sanchez, comprises classic bistro fare (steak frites, crepes, frog legs) and a succinct selection of wine and cocktails.
